Chicago Tribune Once Again Removes 'Doonesbury' Comic Strip, Angers Fans

For the second time in less than five months, the Chicago Tribune has removed a "Doonesbury" comic strip from its newspaper, for reasons that again appear to be suspiciously conservative politically motivated. While "Doonesbury" appeared in over 1,400 newspapers and publications worldwide, as it normally does each day, only the Chicago Tribune chose to find fault with today's content and pull it from its newspaper and website.

WVAZ-FM & Herb Kent To Present 'Don Cornelius Day' Sunday

WVAZ-FM/V103 and Herb Kent will have a special presentation on the air this Sunday, calling it "Don Cornelius Day." During Herb Kent's regular Sunday shift of Noon-7:00pm, instead of just playing old favorite music, the show will be focused on an old favorite legendary talent: the late Don Cornelius. For seven hours, the station will be celebrating the life and legacy of legendary, trailblazing broadcaster.

WCIU-TV To Pay Tribute To Don Cornelius And 'Soul Train'

With the shocking news earlier today of the death of Don Cornelius, the former Chicago radio/TV personality and creator/host of the iconic "Soul Train" television show, Weigel Broadcasting's WCIU-TV will pay tribute to the legend tomorrow morning, and then again for many hours this weekend. WCIU-TV, the first television station Don Cornelius ever worked for and where "Soul Train" was created, will do this first on their weekday morning program "You & Me This Morning," and then later by simulcasting a seven-hour marathon from Bounce-TV on Saturday night.

WFLD-TV Parts Ways With Executive Producer Mike Leiderman

Since the start of this year, major changes have been happening at WFLD-TV. The latest change has taken place late today within the offices of FOX Chicago, as the station has suddenly parted ways with Mike Leiderman, the Executive Producer of FOX Chicago News at 9:00pm, and a veteran of Chicago television, both in front of and behind the camera.

Former Chicago Radio Personality, 'Soul Train' Host Don Cornelius Found Dead

According to numerous reports, Don Cornelius, the former Chicago radio personality and creator/host of the iconic "Soul Train" television show, has died. Reports claim that Cornelius was found in his at his Mulholland Drive home in Los Angeles at approximately 4:00am (PST), dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to his own head, in what looks to be a suicide. He was officially pronounced dead at 4:56am at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Authorities are investigating deeper.

ESPN Deportes To Also Debut Tomorrow On 97.5 FM

As mentioned on here weeks ago, and confirmed on here yesterday before anywhere else, ESPN Deportes will be taking over translator W248BB, heard in the Chicago area on 97.5 FM. The Spanish-language sports & sports talk station ESPN Deportes will also take over the WNUA-HD2 signal, which is what will be transmitting over W248BB. This will happen tomorrow, February 1st, the very same day that ESPN Deportes takes over WKRS-AM 1220 in the north suburbs.

Chicago White Sox Announce 2012 Spring Training Broadcast Schedule

The Chicago White Sox organization have announced their plans to broadcast much of their Spring Training games on one or more mediums of either television, radio, or Internet audio stream. In total, 20 out of the team's 33 Spring Training games will be made available for the eyes or ears of fans.

Comcast SportsNet Chicago To Celebrate Black History Month 2012

With next week being the start of February, and thus, Black History Month, Comcast SportsNet Chicago is planning on a series of specials features highlighting prominent African-American sports figures, teams and moments which will air every Sunday night in February, beginning on Sunday, February 5th. The segments will air Sundays on CSN's SportsNet Central at 10:30pm. In addition, this February, Comcast SportsNet Chicago's website will present a pair of profile feature stories on two of Chicago's greatest basketball icons.

WMAQ-TV, Comcast, NBC News Announce $2.7 Million In Donations To Museum Of Broadcast Communications

The Comcast Corporation (principal owner of NBCUniversal), NBC News and WMAQ-TV/NBC 5 Chicago today announced a pledge of over $2.7 million worth of financial support, advertising, and more to the new Museum of Broadcast Communications (MBC), located in downtown Chicago. The money, air time and other help from Comcast will go toward helping complete the new museum's construction and help promote it to the public.

Former Q101 DJ Electra Finds New Temporary Work

Former WKQX-FM/Q101 midday personality Electra, who has been off the air since her radio station was forced to flip formats as part of an exchange in ownership last July, has found new work, at least for this weekend. Electra, using her real name of Christine Pawlak, is an online reporter this weekend, working live from the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, NV.

John Records Landecker Returns Full-Time To WLS-FM; Biondi, Brown Hours Cut

WLS-FM has given its fans a "Good News/Bad News" situation today. The good news is the full-time return of John Records Landecker to its airwaves, returning to the nighttime hours that first made him a household name on WLS-AM in the 1970s. The bad news is that to make room for Landecker's shift, hours are being cut back from station mainstays Dick Biondi and Greg Brown and their shifts are moving. The changes all take effect on this coming Monday, January 23rd.

Chicago Cubs Announce 2012 Spring Training Broadcast Schedule

The Chicago Cubs organization have announced their plans to broadcast almost every one of their Spring Training games on one or more mediums of either television, radio, or Internet audio stream. In total, 30 out of the team's 35 Spring Training games will be made available for fans. (The five that will not be available happen on days when the club plays two games simultaneously using a split squad.)
