Rod Blagojevich will be riding on Chicago buses after all. Earlier this week, the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) rejected advertising from Merlin Media radio station WIQI-FM/FM News 101.1. The ads for the interior and exterior of Chicago buses, featuring jokes made at the expense of convicted felon & former IL Governor Blagojevich, were turned down by a CTA supervisor, claiming they were "offensive." Now, that decision has been reversed and the ads will soon be appearing on & in Chicago buses. |

According to a report by Lynne Marek on the Crain's Chicago Business website today, alternative weekly newspaper the Chicago Reader is close to being purchased by Wrapports, LLC, the organization of investors that recently purchased Sun-Times Media Holdings, the parent company of the Chicago Sun-Times. Reportedly, the sale will be for $3 million and could be announced as soon as next week. |

Emily Barr, WLS-TV's President/General Manager since 1997, will be exiting the station next month and has accepted a position with Post-Newsweek Stations to become its President and CEO. She starts with the company in July and will slowly ease into her new role. |

One of the most important figures in the history of Chicago radio over the last 50 years, Pervis "The Blues Man" Spann, is being inducted into the National Blues Foundation's Hall Of Fame. The induction will take place during a special ceremony tomorrow, May 9th, in Memphis, TN, the night before the 33rd Annual Blues Music Awards. The honor acknowledges Pervis Spann's contribution to the advancement and preservation of Blues Music over the last five decades. |

Not one, but TWO Alternative Rock radio stations launched almost simultaneously this evening. WJJG-AM flipped to a simulcast of the Q101.com Internet radio station after 6:00pm. About one hour later, WKQX-LP started up its new station Q87.7 five hours early and it is now all Alt-Rock. |

Tomorrow, Monday, May 7th, the Alternative Rock format will begun on 87.7 FM, which is now using the call letters of WKQX-LP. The change in format has to do with a change in operations at the station. The new operators, Merlin Media, LLC, removed the previous Smooth AC format at the end of April 29th, and temporarily simulcasted sister-station WIQI-FM/FM News 101.1 on 87.7. Tomorrow, the simulcast ends and the rock begins. |

This Saturday morning, May 5th, will be the 18th Annual "Bark in the Park," a yearly tradition created to raise funds and awareness for The Anti-Cruelty Society's programs and services. Over 3,000 people, most joined by their canine companions, are expected to attend at this year's event, which takes place at Chicago's Montrose Harbor and the surrounding park area. |

WGN-TV is doing a new promotion called "Your Best Friends Week." The station is asking fans to pick their five most favorite episodes of the classic sitcom (1994-2004) "Friends." The ones which receive the most votes will air at 6:30pm on WGN-TV the week of May 21-25. |

Northwest Indiana's WLPR-FM/The Lakeshore will be one of only seven NPR affiliates in the country to debut the newest NPR program, "The TED Radio Hour." The show will be heard tomorrow, Wednesday May 2nd from Noon-1:00pm, and again from 6:00pm-7:00pm. |
