Chicagoland Radio And Media -- F.A.Q. Page
Frequently asked questions about ChicagolandRadioAndMedia.com and that Larz fellow.

What is Chicagoland Radio And Media?

It's a news source, a message board, a blog site, a memory lane, an information portal, a reference tool and poor attempts at humor, all dedicated to Chicago area radio, television, newspapers and other media. Throughout each day, new postings will appear -- especially on the News Page and Message Board -- letting all know of current events affecting local media.

Why is the site called CRM?

CRM is short for Chicagoland Radio and Media -- a name that pretty much describes what the site is all about. A friend of mine, the late Chicago DJ, Allan Stagg, happily pointed out to me that it should really be abbreviated as CRAM. However, saying the three letters, C-R-M, has a much better sound to it than saying "CRAM," which sounds rather uncomfortable. I prefer to go the route that many corporations go when abbreviating names and not count the "A" in "And" as one of the letters.

I have important information/news story/press release/classic audio clips you may be interested in for your site. How do I submit it to you?

Email me the information (or a link to it, if it is already elsewhere on the Internet) at ChicagolandRM(at)Yahoo.com. All email & phone conversations with me are kept confidential. Anonymity is always protected.

Why even have a message board?

Many reasons! Among the best features of the Internet is the ability to interact with so many. The message board easily allows that interactivity. Anybody can comment there on local media issues. (As long as there are no personal attacks, no obnoxious replies, no political ramblings and nothing offensive posted... anything goes.) The point of the message board is not to get into deep philosophical discussions on radio wavelengths, just to communicate opinions and have fun! (Note: Due to recent spam and troll attacks, all message board postings must be pre-approved by a moderator before they appear online. That process is usually very fast, though.)

Why was my message board post deleted?

This is the question I hate more than any other (with the possible exceptions of "Do you know how fast you were driving, sir? May I see your license and registration?"). I never enjoy removing posts from the CRM site. It occasionally becomes a necessary thing to do, sadly. The probable reasons for a removal are:

* Spam. If the post is a message whose sole purpose is to promote another website, it will be removed. In some cases, if the post promotes a healthy conversation, the message may be simply edited to remove the spam/link portion.
* Divisive Political Overtones. The CRM site is a politics-free zone. Don't like a particular politician of political group? Please keep your strong feelings to yourself. Chances are, half the readers of this site have strong, but opposite feelings, which causes long, unhappy, negative threads. In order for the board to properly work for the majority of readers, it needs to stay more positive and focused on media matters.
* Extreme Religious Views. This isn't an Evangelical Church or a Mid-Eastern Mosque -- it's a media-themed message board. I deeply respect your religious views and hope they serve you well, but please keep your religious beliefs to yourself.
* Hateful Attacks. Any post that has the main purpose of attacking another poster, a media personality or a moderator will be removed or dramatically edited.
* The "Too Personal" Rule. Posts that attempt to "out" a personality's personal information (past relationships, present relationships, sexual preferences, home addresses, real names, family members' information, etc.) will be removed.
* Prejudice. Racism, gay-bashing, etc. will not be tolerated.
* By Special Request. There have been times that the subject of a post or thread has personally asked me to remove the material for a wide variety of personal reasons. I have always complied with this request.
* Off-Topic Posts. If the post doesn't pertain to or have any connection to local media, it stands the chance of being removed. Many off-topic posts will stand, but repeated infractions to this rule will almost certainly get it removed.
* Drawing attention to anti-CRM sites. For whatever reason, there are websites & message boards who main purpose is to steal from this site, copy this site, bash this site, or be offensive to those who enjoy this site. It is best to not give them those locations the attention they crave. Posts that direct people to those sites will be edited or removed.
* Nudity/Pornography/Pornographic Images/Adult Images/Offensive Images. Don't get me wrong... I'm not knocking it. It just doesn't belong here.
* Dangerous Posts. Any post attempting to contain or link to a source containing viruses, worms, spyware, or piracy of any kind will be removed.
* Potential Legal Trouble. Anything that can put me in front of a judge or dealing with attorneys has to be removed.
* Violation of the Terms of Use of the Hosting Company. If the company that hosts the message board doesn't allow it, I don't either. Boardhost's usage terms can be found at the bottom of the message board page.

Remember the Golden Rule from your childhood and all should be fine.

I am not against free-speech. I feel that anybody is welcome to say or feel what they wish. Just not always on this particular site!

I almost never remove messages, except in the rare cases where somebody crosses the line of one of the rules above. Luckily, that does not happen very often.

Unlike many other message boards out there, the overall theme & feel of this site's message board is more professional, while staying light & upbeat. It works better that way and I aim to keep it that way. If anybody has any additional questions as to why a post was removed, don't not post it on the message board. E-mailing me directly is the best way to get an answer.

How can I submit a picture for the Memory Lane section?
How can I submit some MP3s for the Audio page?
How can I submit a link suggestion for the Media Links or Podcast pages?
How can I place an available job posting on your site?

All of these can be easily done via email: ChicagolandRM(at)Yahoo.com

How can I advertise on Chicagoland Radio and Media? What is the cost?

The CRM site now gets around 5,000,000 hits per month and the audience continues to grow. If you would like your ad to be seen by this captive audience, send an e-mail to ChicagolandRM(at)Yahoo.com. The costs vary and are negotiable, depending on the advertisers needs. The ads can be run on the site for 1 calender month or many months and will provide a link back to the advertiser's website. Any additional questions can be better answered personally via e-mail.

Does anybody really know what time it is?

(I don't...) Does anybody really know what time it is?
(...care...) Does anybody really care? (...about time...)
If so I can't imagine why, (Oh no, no)
We've all got time enough to cry.

Can I borrow a few bucks for lunch?
No.

How long has this site been around?
ChicagolandRadioAndMedia.com began on the 4th of July, 2005. It began as a very simple message board and has evolved over the years into much more.

Who runs Chicagoland Radio and Media?
For the most part, CRM is operated and maintained by one person. On this site, he goes by a nickname he has had for about 30 years, "Larz." (Yes, I just described myself in the third person. Sorry.)

Who the hell is Larz, anyway?

Just a fun-loving guy looking to help out the Chicago media industry any way he can, while entertaining & informing the thousands of people interested in the past, present & future of Chicago media.
