WLUP/WIQI Promotion Assistant (Part-Time)
WLUP, 97.9 The Loop and WIQI, FM News 101.1 are looking for energetic people to be a part of our team. The position supports the Promotion Department in the development and execution of station promotional efforts, publicity, special events and projects.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Executes station promotions. (Sales promotions, concerts, festivals, street marketing, etc.)
2. Assists in planning & management of all station promotions.
3. Collects, copies, organizes, and disseminates promotional materials.
4. Assists in winner correspondence and mass mailings.
5. Interacts with the general public & clients during events and other promotional activities.
6. Serves as a liaison for the promotions department assisting the department as needed.
7. Corresponds with vendors and/or venue organizations at concerts & promotional events.
8. Ensures station vehicles used in promotional activities are in safe working order.
9. May provide receptionist switchboard relief from time-to-time.
10. Reports to Promotions Coordinator & Promotions Director.
11. Other job-related duties as required.
Requirements:
- Age: 21 years or older.
- Strong marketing & promotional background.
- Outgoing and upbeat personality is a MUST!
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively with the public.
- Must work in a cooperative manner; interacting effectively with all station personnel, clients, outside vendors and listeners.
- Ability to work independently and operate effectively in high-pressure, time-critical situations.
- Be able to work 20-30 hours/per week, including week nights and weekends.
- Must possess valid Illinois Driver's License and a demonstrated good driving record for operation of station vehicles.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED). College Degree Preferred.
- A previous working relationship with media contacts, public relation firms and/or special events background, a plus.
- Computer proficient and able to use standard office equipment (i.e., computer, copier and fax machine).
- Experience with video editing, web design, writing, event planning &/or social media a plus.
- Must be willing to work in a smoke-free environment.
- Ability to multi-task and work long and varied hours

WBBM-AM Assistant Producer (Part-Time)
Newsradio 780, also simulcast on WCFS-FM 105.9, seeks an Assistant Producer.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Primary duty is taking and editing audio from multiple sources including reporters, weather feeds and network audio feeds. AP's will place phone calls to check on news stories, to use internet and other sources to follow up or gain insight for use in reporting news stories.
Additionally, answer telephones in a polite and helpful fashion. Recognize the urgency of telephone calls (immediate, routine, can wait) Answer listener questions, Screen calls from public relations firms, take messages for reporters. Refer complaints to management; take in detailed news tips and forward immediately to the desk. Call back people you have promised to help.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
A college degree, with a concentration in broadcast journalism is preferred. Hands-on internships or experience at a college radio station is required. Must be familiar with digital audio editing techniques. Preferred Candidate will be from the surrounding Chicagoland area.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Must follow news on a regular basis, have a working knowledge of the basic facts of topical news stories and demonstrate "news judgment."
Assistant producers must be familiar with digital audio editing techniques. Must be familiar with basic technical standards including level noise and clarity of sound. Must be able to write clearly and juggle multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.
COMPLEXITY OF WORK:
The work of assistant producers is very routine, but the sheer volume of work and competing priorities may be daunting for new employees. Must have the capcity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. There is a high volume of work and AP's are required to prioritize tasks. Much of work must be performed on very short deadlines. There is a low tolerance for errors. Answering listener inquires may require determination and ingenuity.
INTERNAL/EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Assistant producers take much of their direction from the editor on the desk, who helps determine priorities for audio to be used on the air. Assistant producers work closely with editors, writers, reporters and anchors. When answering the phone, assistant producers represent the radio station to listeners and callers, and a must project a professional and unhurried image to callers.
DECISION-MAKING FOR RESULTS:
The work of the assistant producers is highly structured and subject to constant review. Assistant producers who demonstrate a high degree of maturing and grasp of the job may be allowed more latitude.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Able to manage and maintain complex integrated systems with minimum supervision.
- Knowledge of FCC rules and regulations, applicable electrical, mechanical, structural and civil engineering methods helpful.
- Practical knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC and basic construction techniques helpful.
- Maintenance and repair of all technical equipment in studio and transmitter facilities/towers, satellite downlink and microwave transmission systems. RF engineering knowledge a plus.
- Design and construction of new engineering projects as directed by Corporate Engineering and project management.
- Development, preparation, timely submission for approval and implementation of capital budges/projects.
- Assist Regional Director of Engineering in development, preparation and implementation of operating budget and control of operating expenditures.
- Preparation and timely delivery of required status information and reports.
- Must be able to troubleshoot, diagnose and handle the tools necessary to repair studio/post production equipment.
- Must be able to effectively present information and respond to question from managers, clients, customers and general public.
- Must have solid working knowledge of Apple computers, OSX and related software.
- Must have solid working knowledge of PC's, networks, routers, MS operating systems and application software such as Work and Excel.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Candidates must have 3+ years experience maintaining modern broadcast equipment.
- FCC license or SBE certification a plus.
- Must have strong maintenance, organizational, computer and people skills.
- Must be able to travel, bend, lift and carry up to a maximum of 70 pounds, climb on step-stools, ladders and other necessary equipment.

WLS-AM/FM Looking for Digital Managing Editor
Cumulus Radio Chicago (WLS 890 AM & 94.7 WLS-FM) is searching for an experienced Digital Managing Editor who can maintain our websites beginning immediately. The Digital Managing Editor will oversee and manage the content on our websites, streaming and other digital/new media initiatives for both stations. This position will work with our Operations/Program Directors to identify, prepare, and upload pictoral, video, and written content and to re-purpose radio content for online use. This individual will also be responsible for creating and implementing sales opportunities for our Account Executives by developing strategic plans by integrating all digital opportunities into our traditional business and tactical plans in support of this strategy, along with working with our Marketing Directors to oversee and manage email marketing programs and online listener databases for both stations with an emphasis on optimizing search engine redistribution and growing listener data and transforming into actionable insights. The ideal candidate will be responsible for timely, immediate updating of content for websites, RSS feeds and other digital channels, and must be familiar with content management tools, HTML, CSS, XML, database web standards, digital images, streaming media technology, web analytics and metrics, podcasts, video content management systems, ad insertion technology, all social media, and permission email tools. This position will work closely with the Sales Managers and Marketing/Promotions Directors and will report to the Operations/Program Directors. This is an on-site, in-office position, but requires oversight that may be done from other than in-office.
Qualifications:
- Radio, TV or newspaper programming, news, and/or producing experience
- Hands-on experience with radio, TV, or newspaper website

Chicago Talk Station Seeks Part Time Board Operator
Position Summary:
Station seeking a Broadcast Operator/Producer for talk/call-in programs, live event broadcasts, and network feeds/programming. Will be responsible for operating the broadcast console during live and recorded talk shows; will read and follow format log and play the correct spots and station ID's at the appropriate times; operate faders and monitor audio levels, and log significant events during the broadcast. Responsible for the operation and quality of studio sound and equipment during programs. This is a part time position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Checks studio equipment for proper functioning, reporting technical problems and equipment malfunctions
- Runs the audio board for various live and taped talk shows
- Ensures that on-air product is up to FCC broadcast standards and protect broadcast license
- Following programming clocks to ensure that all content and advertisements are featured as planned
- Screens incoming calls and selectively chooses callers to go on-air and put listener calls through to on-air talent and ends calls
- Creates promos to highlight key moments from show
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:

WBBM Newsradio Part Time Writer/Editor
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
To write or edit newscasts and news stories for anchors to read on air. Radio news writers prepare air-ready copy for anchors. Editors review available stories, write stories, and schedule stories for use on the air. This is a per-diem position without company benefits. Per-Diem employees may or may not have a regular shift, are used for vacation relief and occasional extra work. Schedule varies depending on need, and likely would include night and/or weekend work. This is a WGA position.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Writer: Prepares ready-to-air broadcast copy from wires sources, facts from reporters, and own knowledge of current events. Selects key facts from stories for airing and packages them creatively with sound and available audio. Adapts writing style to the needs of particular anchors on the air, whenever possible. Completes assigned line-ups quickly and accurately.
Editor: Reviews all current stories coming in from all sources and chooses which stories should air on WBBM Newsradio 780. Selects audio from incoming sources for use in newscasts. Prepares hourly lineups of stories for writers to complete. Responds to breaking stories, making initial calls, and directing the newsroom and assigning reporters when a manager is not available. May conduct interviews on tape, select audio cuts, and enter information into computer system. Arranges reporter live shots and interviews, and monitors network feeds for breaking stories.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- College graduate.
- Major in broadcast journalism and English preferred.
- Two years of broadcast news writing experience required.
- Reporting experience preferred.
- All applicants must successfully complete a timed writing test.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be familiar with broadcast style, with a strong ability to incorporate audio into written stories.
- Excellent grammar and good spelling are important.
- A curiosity about the world and familiarity with current events is extremely important.
COMPLEXITY OF WORK:
Writer: Writers work off an assigned lineup drawing information from the "tree", the audio file, and appropriate wires. Since there is little opportunity for detailed review of copy before airing, writers must get it right the first time. Must be able to work effectively under pressure.
Editor: Must review incoming news stories from a variety of sources and choose the stories of highest interest and most relevance to the WBBM Newsradio 780 audience. Assembles an hourly lineup of news for writers and anchors to prepare. Assigns audio to newscasts. Creatively pursues new ways of presenting stories so that they have the most impact on the audience. Brings stories of interest to the attention of the manager on duty for reporter follow-up.
