WJMK - Steve Dahl/Buzz Kilman/Joe Walsh - 09/26/08

On September 26, 2008, rock & roll icon Joe Walsh stopped by The Steve Dahl Show on WJMK-FM. For over two hours that morning, Walsh entertained Steve Dahl & Buzz Kilman, as well as the entire listening audience, with his funny stories and even a couple of solo songs. In addition to Walsh, Dahl & Kilman, the group also talks with WBBM-AM's Jeff Joniak, takes calls from fans, and does an episode of "Angelo's Ashes." Here is Walsh's entire time on the show (with commercials, songs and some news removed to make it go faster) from that morning two years ago. This is probably the longest audio clip this site will ever have. (Running time: 91:03)

WLS John Landecker - Boogie Check - Summer 1977

Time for a "Boogie Check" with John Records Landecker taking unscreened call from listeners. This comes from the summer of 1977. Two notes: First of all, the quality of this audio is only fair due largely to tape hiss and a weak radio signal, and second of all, the first caller was able to let some non-FCC-approved words fly, so this audio clip may not be 100% safe for work. (Running time: 14:44)

Roe Report Final Segment - 10/29/10

Roe Conn has ended his syndicated short form radio show, "The Roe Report." You can read about it HERE. The following is the final segment of the final "Roe Report," where you can hear Roe Conn say his goodbyes and thank yous. (Running time: 0:59)

WNND - Scott Childers aircheck - 02/11/00

Long before 100.3 was known as WILV-FM or "Rewind 100.3" it was WNND-FM, best known as Windy 100. Here is a Windy aircheck starring Scott Childers from February 11th, 2000. Audio courtesy of ScottChilders.com. (Running time: 3:23)

WGN-TV Creature Features Into - Halloween 10/31/70

In this last Halloween audio clip, CRM presents the introduction to WGN-TV's "Creature Features" show from Halloween, 1970. It was a creepy double-feature with the movies "The Ghost of Frankenstein" and "The Mark of the Vampire." Now don't be too scared... (Running time 2:07)

Steve King - Satan Is Her Name

While not a true Halloween song, the title alone makes it worth adding here on the CRM Audio Page's Halloween Week. This song comes from WGN-AM overnight host Steve King from long before he became a Chicago radio legend. Before starting his impressive radio career, he fronted a band called Steve King and the Echelons in the early 60's. One of the songs they recorded was this little nugget that was written by Mr. King, called, "Satan Is Her Name." It was released as a single on this very day, October 29, 1962, on Chicago's Mercury Records label. Enjoy! (Running time: 2:27)

Son of Svengoolie - Boogie-Woogie Bogeyman of Berwyn

More Halloween fun! From the very early 80's, here is Rich Koz, when he was known as "The Son of Svengoolie" on his WFLD-TV show, doing one of his parody songs. This time, he takes the 1940's Andrew Sisters hit "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" and turns it into the "Boogie-Woogie Bogeyman of Berwyn," making fun of his favorite town to do so: Berwyn, IL. (Running time: 2:18)

WBEZ - Sound Opinions talks about Halloween songs (2006)

Continuing on with Halloween week... Today's audio is a bit from WBEZ's "Sound Opinions," where Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot discuss some top Goth songs to play for your Halloween party. This clip comes from near the end of their show from October 21, 2006. (The songs have been trimmed down to around one minute each for this clip.) Creepy stuff! (Running time: 14:03)

Svengoolie/Screaming Yellow Theater Theme - 'Rumble' by Link Wray

In keeping with the special all-Halloween theme week of audio tracks, here is the creepy theme used by the original Svengoolie as his intro music for WFLD-TV's "Screaming Yellow Theater." It was also used before almost every commercial break, after a Svengoolie bit. This same music was used by Quentin Tarantino in his breakthrough movie, "Pulp Fiction." The creepy tune is actually the 1958 instrumental hit "Rumble" by Link Wray and his Ray Men. Link Wray was an influential early guitarist who has decades of great work, but this song defined his career. Enjoy, Sven-heads! (Running time: 2:25)

WGN-TV 'Creature Features' Opening and Closing - The Wolfman 10/09/71

With this being the week before Halloween, The CRM Audio Page will be posting up some spooky Chicago audio tracks in preparation for it. This audio track comes from TV. Sadly, there is no video to accompany it, as almost all video of WGN-TV's "Creature Features" has been lost. This audio clip contains both the opening and the closing of the "Creatures Features" show from October 9, 1971, as the station was showing the classic scary movie, "The Wolfman." (Running time: 2:07)

WMAQ-AM Jingles From 1969 - 'The Good Life On Q'

Here are a few jingles used in the spring and summer of 1969 on WMAQ-AM, when the station was playing lighter, more adult music. (Running time: 1:15)

WBBM - Dick Jurgens remote from the Aragon Ballroom - December 1950

Here is a real classic audio from Chicago radio, going all the way back to December 1950! WBBM-AM does a half-hour live remote from a Dick Jurgens concert held at the Aragon Ballroom. (Running time: 30:05)
