Media Stars And Jewel-Osco Donate $20,000 To Local Charities

As mentioned here last week, a couple of Jewel-Osco stores had a western-themed "Family Day at the Corral" events, with each featuring "Celebrity Grill-Off Showdowns." The end result of the cook-off was that six local Chicago charities split $20,000 and hundreds of visitors were able to enjoy some free, celebrity-cooked steak.

The Chicago/Ashland Avenue location featured WLS-TV's Steve "Hungry Hound" Dolinsky, WFLD-TV's Patrick Elwood, and WVON-AM's Matt McGill grilling up the steaks, along with WJMK-FM's Eddie & Jobo doing the hosting duties. The suburban Libertyville location featured WMAQ-TV's Kim Vatis & Stefan Holt (working as a team), the Daily Herald's Deborah Pankey, and Chicagonista's MJ Tam grilling up steaks, along with WCFS-FM's Scotty Smith hosting.

After the local media celebrities grilled up steaks using their own special recipes, visitors at each event sampled and then voted for their favorite steak.

At the Chicago event, WFLD-TV's Patrick Elwood was the big winner, earning $5,000 to his chosen charity, Lakeview Pantry. WVON-AM's Matt McGill and WLS-TV's Steve Dolinsky tied for second place in the voting. Their chosen charities -- Trinity United Church of Christ and Meals on Wheels of Chicago, respectively -- each earned a check for $2,500.

At the Libertyville party, the team of WMAQ-TV's Kim Vatis and Stefan Holt won first place. Their $5,000 prize went to Loaves & Fishes Community Pantry. Coming in second place was the Daily Herald's Deborah Pankey, and $2,500 will be donated on her behalf to the Palatine Township Food Pantry. Chicagonista's MJ Tam finished third and will have $2,500 donated on her behalf to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.

To see the steak recipes and products used by the media celebrities in the "Celebrity Grill-Off Showdowns," Jewel-Osco has posted them up on their Facebook page at this link HERE.
