Steve Dahl announced yesterday afternoon that the Dahl.com podcasts are now the "Steve Dahl Network." With more than just his own daily DahlCast show being offered to subscribers, it was time to make the new "Network" name official.
Former Chicago radio star Kevin Matthews joined Steve Dahl's podcast subscription plan in December, after losing his radio job in Grand Rapids, MI due to budget cutbacks by the station's new corporate owner. He started with a weekly show on Friday afternoons, but is enjoying so much, he now does a regular Monday show and his alter ego "Jim Shorts" does a wild Wednesday show. Steve Dahl has now added a new show on weekends, entitled "Descent into the Archives," where he plays classic shows of his from many years ago, including classic Steve & Garry broadcasts. This is in addition to allowing subscribers access to all past podcasts, including those from the last couple of years before the subscription plan started. The newest addition to the Steve Dahl Network will be starting this Wednesday, as Former WKQX-FM/WXRT-FM/WZZN-FM personality and music programmer James VanOsdol will now be doing new interview podcasts on Dahl.com for subscribers. The approximately 45 minute show will be monthly at this point in time. JVO's new podcast series, mentioned first HERE weeks ago, feature interviews with people he finds interesting and admires and have been appearing regularly this month on his own blogsite. (In fact, it was after Dahl read about JVO's new podcasts on this site that he decided to reach out to him.) The podcasts on Dahl.com will be longer, more in-depth versions of the type of pods he is doing on his own. VanOsdol excitedly blogged yesterday about being asked to join the Steve Dahl Network. A life-long fan of Dahl's work, VanOsdol wrote: "Holy crap. I'm officially part of the Steve Dahl Network, a collective of broadcasters and entertainers who've chosen to evolve the concept of radio well into the 21st century." He added: "It's an thrill to be part of the Steve Dahl Network, and I hope to honor the trust he's placed in me as a contributor." The first interview of JVO's for the Steve Dahl Network will be with Paul Adelstein, a Chicago native and actor, best known for his roles as Agent Paul Kellerman in the FOX TV series "Prison Break," and as pediatrician Cooper Freedman in the ABC series "Private Practice" and "Grey's Anatomy." In addition to his television work, he has been seen in numerous films. Not just an actor, Adelstein is also a musician. He is the lead singer (as well as plays guitar and piano) with his band Doris, which he started here in Chicago many years ago and is now based in Los Angeles. According to Steve Dahl's blog on the Network yesterday, rock & roll superstar and personal friend of Dahl's, Joe Walsh, is getting closer to doing his own podcast for Dahl.com. Steve Dahl said yesterday: "I spoke to Joe Walsh on Friday and he is putting out a call to Rick the bass player this week, and we hope to have Joe's first podcast very soon." Dahl is also looking at adding Chicago sports talk legend and longtime podcaster Chet Coppock to the growing Network, for a weekly show. All of the above is all for no additional charge than the regular DahlCast fee of $9.95 per month or $99.95 a year. Details on subscribing can be found HERE. ![]()
