One month ago, WGN-AM began holding a contest to see who can come up with the next big song about the Chicago Cubs. The winning song could be used as the Cubs official song of the 2012 baseball season. As of this morning, WGN Radio has selected the three finalists to win this contest and is allowing website visitors to help vote for the ultimate winner.
According to WGN-AM, over 300 entries were received in the last month. To be considered, the entries needed to be under four minutes, had to clearly say WGN Radio and the Chicago Cubs, but could not mention any Cubs players or personnel by name (so as not to make the song feel dated in future seasons and for legal reasons).
On his morning show this morning, WGN-AM's Jonathon Brandmeier announced the three best songs of the many entries received. They were (alphabetical by song title):
"Cubs Win" by 17 Candle, a mid-tempo roots-rock song (in a BoDeans/Poco style)
"Let's Go Cubbies" by The Fold, a fast-paced emo-alt rock tune (in a Fall Out Boy/Panic! At The Disco style)
"Rockin' Right at Wrigley" by Derrick Procell, a country rock song (in a 38 Special/Lynyrd Skynyrd style)

The songs can now be voted upon a this link
HERE on the WGN Radio website. Voting is limited to one vote per computer IP address per day during the voting period. Voting is open through 8:30am on Friday, March 16th. Shortly after the 8:30am newscast that morning, Jonathon Brandmeier will announce the winner of the contest. The winner will be chosen based on the online voting results and WGN management's judgment of which is the best song, based on overall appeal and quality of performance.
The winning song will then become the official WGN Radio Cubs Song of the 2012 baseball season and will be played near the start of every single WGN-AM Cubs baseball broadcast this season. Before that happens, the winner will be invited to record the song in a professional Chicago recording studio at some point before the end of this month. Additionally, the winner will get the opportunity to perform the winning song live on the air during Jonathon Brandmeier's Opening Day radio broadcast on April 5th, which will be a live remote from the Captain Morgan Club at Wrigley Field.
