On the evening June 20th, at the IBA2012 Conference held at the Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in Normal, IL, the Illinois Broadcasters Association (IBA) announced the winners of their annual Silver Dome Awards. The awards are meant to honor broadcasting quality & excellence by Illinois radio and television stations, as well as their staffers, each year.
The IBA Silver Dome Awards considerations are based only for the entries the IBA receives, not for all work produced by all stations statewide. Entries are judged by out-of-state broadcasters. The finalists themselves entered their work to be judged, along with a fee. The competition was only open to IBA member stations. All of entries must have been produced and broadcast by stations between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2011 only. Entries had to be received by the IBA by February 14th, 2012. The fee ($40 per entry for the Chicago market) goes to benefit the IBA's College Endowment and Minority Internship Programs.
The Silver Dome Awards are broken down between Radio and Television and then each are broken down between Large Market (Chicago market only), Medium Market (Bloomington-Normal, Champaign-Urbana, Decatur, Joliet, Marion-Carbondale, Peoria, Quad Cities, Quincy, Rockford, and Springfield), and Small Market (every other area in IL).
Repeating as the IBA's Stations of the Year (Large Market) were once again WGN-AM (fifth year in a row for the radio station) and WMAQ-TV (second year in a row for the television station).
Here are the Chicago winners of 2012 IBA Silver Dome awards for the Chicago/Large Market, as announced this week. (1st Place winners only. Listed alphabetically by winning station call letters.)
