WGN-AM Adds New Food & Cooking Radio Show

WGN Radio has added a new weekend show to its line-up entitled "Flavor HD" -- a food and cooking program. Starting tomorrow morning, "Flavor HD" will air each Sunday from 11:00am-Noon.

The show is described by its hosts as "Food Radio" and that it offers "all your flavorite grilling gurus, palate pals, taste buds, kitchen crushes and heroes of the hungry... delivered fresh to an appetite near you."

The "HD" in the name "Flavor HD" does not stand for high-definition, but rather for the hosts names: Hannah and Dane. Hannah Stanley and Dane Neal had been periodically guesting on Bill Leff's overnight show for the last few months, talking about various food subjects. The segments have gone so well that WGN Radio decided to spin Stanley and Neal off to their own regular weekly show.

Hannah Stanley is a veteran of Chicago radio, most recently serving as weekend host of "Beyond Sports" and Public Affairs Manager for WMVP-AM/ESPN AM 1000. A lifelong "foodie," Hannah Stanley claims that even as a young girl, she would watch cooking shows instead of cartoons. She even waited for hours to gain famed chef Julia Childs' autograph on a cookbook when she was still in middle school. She is now combining her radio talents and food knowledge into one fun job.

Dane Neal is also a veteran of radio. For many years, he was co-host of the "Joe Gentile Morning Show" on WJJG-AM. Neal has also been co-host of such shows the syndicated auto racing program "Gasoline Alley - The Fastest Show in Radio" and the syndicated "Restaurant Radio America." Additionally, Neal has been a freelance writer for Trib Local's suburban newspapers, most often on the subject of food.

Chef Guy Fieri, Hannah Stanley & Dane Neal

Hannah Stanley and Dane Neal have together been talking about food and interviewing famous chefs for their Flavor HD website for most of the last year, with some segments being heard on radio stations across the country via the "Restaurant Radio America" programming. Podcasts of past shows from this year are available for free via iTunes. With the new WGN-AM "Flavor HD" show, this marks the first time the show has had a regular home on radio.

"Flavor HD" will be heard live each Sunday, barring any preempting for WGN Sports broadcasts. WGN Radio is already planning on a special three-hour "Flavor HD" show, which will air live on Thanksgiving morning from 9:00am-Noon

This Sunday's topics and guests include:
- tailgating food tips,
- an interview with the Food Network's Justin Willman host of "Cupcake Wars" and this month's "Halloween Wars",
- an interview with the Food Network's Chef Robert Irvine, who will be previewing an upcoming Chicago-based episode of "Restaurant: Impossible"

The addition of the "Flavor HD" show is part of WGN-AM's revamping of the Sunday morning line-up, which was made necessary by the recent resignation of Rick Kogan and the end of his "Sunday Papers with Rick Kogan" program. "Dean Richards' Sunday Morning" has been expanded and moved earlier, now airing from 6:30am-11:00am, directly preceding the new "Flavor HD" program.
