CBS Radio Chicago's Senior Vice President and Market Manager, Rod Zimmerman announced this afternoon the hiring of Buddy Scott to be the new Program Director of WUSN-FM, better known as US99.5.
This is not Buddy Scott's first time programming Chicago radio. From 1982-1990, Scott was the PD for WBBM-FM. It was Scott that first came up with the nickname "B96" for the station. It was also Scott that first paired up B96 night jock Joe Bohannon and morning jock Eddie Volkman, creating the incredibly successful Eddie & JoBo team. After leaving Chicago, Scott went down to Houston where he programmed KODA-FM & KHMX-FM for Clear Channel, and becoming their Senior Vice President of Programming first for the Houston cluster, and then for over 100 stations in over two dozen markets. As many of those stations were Country-formatted ones, WUSN will not be his first Country programming experience. Scott left Clear Channel in 2007 and returned home to Chicago. He has run Buddy Scott Strategies, a radio consulting company since then, working with numerous clients. It was Rod Zimmerman who convinced Scott to come back and work for a big corporation once again. Zimmerman said this in a statement this afternoon: "I am pleased Buddy has agreed to rejoin CBS Radio-Chicago and program the premier Country Station in America. His experience, leadership, skill set and passion for the format, make him the perfect choice to lead WUSN to new levels of success. He also knows Chicago radio and has long considered the area home." WUSN, Chicago's lone Country station, has been without a programmer since the firing of Bill Gamble back on March 30th. Assistant PD, Marci Braun has been handling the duties in the interim. This move was first hinted at on Chicagoland Radio & Media on Tuesday of this week, inside the News & Notes column. ![]()
