Today's announcement of the hiring of Buddy Scott as US99.5's new PD is just one of many things going on at CBS Radio Chicago. There are few other new developments as well...

The first is very good news. It is expected that in the next few days, Brooke Hunter will be named the new midday host of WCFS-FM/Fresh 105.9. She has been the fill-in host of the time slot since Rick Hall was fired two weeks ago. Many personalities applied for the vacant job, but it was Hunter's experience and comfortability with the Fresh format that won the job for her in new Program Director, Jim Ryan's mind.

Brooke Hunter was first brought to WCFS by former Program Director Bill Gamble, who had worked with her previously at two other Chicago radio stations. She first was hired to do the Friday night 90's show and weekend shifts at Fresh. In January of this year, she was promoted to nights and fill-in.

Even prior to joining WCFS, Brooke Hunter has been a Chicago radio veteran. A Columbia College graduate, she began in the local radio biz in the late 80's. She has had stints at WKQX, WZZN, WTMX and WRDZ.

In other CBS Radio Chicago news, insiders are saying that Todd Cavanah has just received a new contract. He remains Program Director of both WBBM-FM and WJMK-FM. However, the contract supposedly calls for very strict directions to improve the situations of both stations. Cavanah has worked at WBBM-FM since 1989 -- a remarkable run. (Belated congratulations go out to Todd Cavanah on his engagement, as well.)

Lastly, with the hiring of Buddy Scott, there are no longer any key management vacancies within CBS Radio Chicago. In late May, Rod Zimmerman, Senior Vice President and Market Manager of CBS Radio Chicago, announced to Chicago media columnist Robert Feder, that he was creating a brand new position, that of Vice President of Programming for the entire Chicago cluster. After offering the position to a few candidates and having them each turn down the position for various reasons, it appears that filling the newly created position has now been put on the back burner. It may be reassessed again in a few weeks, but for now, there will be no new VPP for the Chicago market. Speaking of remarkable runs... Rod Zimmerman has been with CBS Radio (even when it was not called CBS Radio) since 1978. That's 32 years (and 4 months) with the same company, something rarely heard of, especially in the radio industry.
