Today, the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) announced today the finalists for the 2010 NAB Marconi Radio Awards, the annual awards honoring radio stations and on-air personalities for excellence in broadcasting. Out of the many nominees, Chicago stations & personalities were only recognized a few times.

In the category of Spanish Personality of the Year, WPPN-FM's Omar Ramos is one of the five nominees. Also nominated in this category is Eddie "Piolin" Sotelo, who is heard on Chicago's WOJO-FM, but originates his show from Los Angeles' KSCA-FM.

Speaking of WOJO-FM, it is one of the five nominees for Spanish Station of the Year.

In the category of Major Market Station of the Year, WBBM-AM has a one in five chance of bringing home the award.

In the category of Network/Syndicated Personality of the Year, four out of the five nominees are heard in the Chicago market:
Scott Shannon, who is heard throughout the day & night on WLS-FM
Steve Harvey, who is heard mornings on WVAZ-FM
Tom Joyner, who is heard on WPWX-FM and WSRB-FM
Bob & Tom, who are heard in the south suburbs on WRXQ-FM and WXRD-FM

Except for the above three nominations and not counting programming that is syndicated in, Chicago stations were passed over for nominations in every other category.

Last year's only Chicago winner, WGN-AM, who won for News/Talk Station of the Year, received no nominations this year.
