The Tribune Company announced today the promotion of Jeff Kapugi to Chief Operating Officer of Tribune Interactive. The promotion is effective immediately.

As is the case with so many key hires & promotions for the Tribune Company recently, Kapugi is a former radio executive who previously worked with Tribune Company CEO Randy Michaels at Jacor and Clear Channel Radio. Kapugi was with Jacor/Clear Channel for almost 20 years, where he worked numerous jobs including Operations Manager & Program Director. Upon Michaels' urging, he resigned from Clear Channel in August of 2008 and joined Tribune Interactive the following month.

In September of 2008, Kapugi signed on as the Vice President of Content Tribune Interactive, overseeing the Chicago websites such as WGNRadio.com, WGNTV.com, CLTV.com and ChicagoTribune.com. In January of this year, Kapugi was promoted to Senior Vice-President of Tribune Interactive's Representation Division, a new position created just for him.

Unlike most other Tribune hires & promotions of former Jacor & Clear Channel personnel, Jeff Kapugi is a Chicago native. He is a 1983 graduate of Chicago's Bogan High School and a 1988 graduate of Columbia College Chicago. It was at Bogan High School that he fell in love with radio, working at the school's "mighty" 10 watt radio station, where he often professed his love for the music of ELO. Before graduating from Columbia, he worked at WCRX-FM and after graduating, worked at WXLC-FM in Waukegan. He also had a stop at WJTW-FM in Joliet, before moving on to radio stations out of state and working for Jacor.

As for his new role as COO with Tribune Interactive, Jeff Kapugi said today: "We have an incredible opportunity to take the media industry to the next level and I'm excited to help make it happen. My focus will be on implementing innovative efficiencies while maintaining a strong sense of organization."

Jeff Kapugi replaces Nick Cory, who was removed yesterday as Chief Operating Officer.
