* * The 2010 Lake County Fair begins Tuesday July 27, running through August 1st, and is located at the new Lake County Fairgrounds at 1060 E. Peterson Rd. in Grayslake (Peterson & Midlothian Roads -- although in actuality, it is on the edge of Libertyville & Mundelein and far away from Grayslake proper). Chicago area radio stations will be stopping by the Fair throughout the event. WLS-FM morning man Dave Fogel will be at the Fair on Friday, July 30th, introducing the Beatles tribute band, American English at 8:30pm on the Main Stage. WLS-FM night man (and living radio legend) Dick Biondi will be at the Fair on Saturday, July 31st from Noon-2:00pm. He will be presented with a giant cake (which can feed more than 100 people) to celebrate his 50th anniversary as a Chicago radio broadcaster. WRDZ-AM/Radio Disney will be at the Chevy Family Experience Stage on July 30th from 4:00pm-5:30pm for a live remote and music to make the kiddies dance. Radio Disney returns on August 1st at 3:30pm at the Funpalooza Stage for more tween party music. WIIL-FM/95WIILRock will be part of the Fair, as well. The tribute band Mellencougar, which features morning host Tom Kief on bass guitar, will be on the Main stage on Thursday, July 29 at 9:00pm. WIIL is sponsoring the big concert of the Fair, which takes place on Saturday, July 31st at 8:30pm at the Main Stage, featuring We Are The Fallen, Taddy Porter, and American Bang. General admission for the 2010 Lake County Fair is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-12 and seniors 65 and older. Admission is free for children 4 and under and military personnel in uniform. Admission is $5 for military personnel with active ID. For more information and the full event schedule, visit the Lake County Fair Association Website.

* * WLUP-FM is once again presenting the "Golf for the Bear" event to benefit the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation. The golfing event will take place on Thursday, August 19, at Seven Bridges Golf Club in Woodridge, IL. Check in is at 10:30am, with a shotgun start at Noon. The foursomes will be playing "Best Ball" to keep the course moving along. Tickets cost $275 per person or $1,100 per foursome. Cost includes Green fees, golf carts, lunch, cocktail hour, awards dinner and more. This will be the first "Golf for the Bear" in a few years without Jonathon Brandmeier, who is no longer with The Loop. Instead, Pete McMurray, Pat Capone and Lindsey the Loop Rock Girl will be on hand for the fun. The deadline to register is August 4th and can be done at this link HERE.

* * WNUA's MegaFest 2010 is all set. The giant concert will be taking place on August 21 at the Allstate arena in Rosemont starting at 6:00pm. Artists playing include Enrique Iglesias, Daddy Yankee, Gloria Trevi and Don Omar. Tickets range from $20 to $99, depending on location, and can be purchased at this link HERE. More information the event can be seen on a few new webpages on the Mega 95.5 website, found HERE.

* * Jarrett Payton, the son of Chicago Bears superstar Walter Payton, is now doing a daily sports talk show. "The Jarrett Payton Show" is on from 10:00am-Noon weekdays and found on the Illinois Center for Broadcasting's sports radio website, ChicagolandSportsRadio.com. Payton is joined each day by co-host Ernie Scatton for the two-hour talk show. When he is not doing sports radio, Payton is a running back for the Chicago Slaughter. He previously played two years with the Tennessee Titans.

* * As previously mentioned on CRM, last Tuesday was WGN-AM's "720 Day" -- a 24 hour period set aside for fundraising and awareness about the WGN Radio Neediest Kids Fund. To kick off "720 Day" in a big way, overnight hosts Steve King & Johnnie Putman had their "July Jam," which is where local musical talents all get together within Steve & Johnnie's studio and play together. For the charity drive this year, Steve & Johnnie had listeners call in with requests for the artists. A donation to the fund could get the request played. Four stand-out songs by the four artists in the "Jam" were video recorded and now available on the WGN website. To see these outstanding performances, here are direct links for each of them: Jim Peterik performing "LA Goodbye" / Cathy Richardson performing "If I Could" / Lisa McClowry performing "Waiting For You" / Ronnie Rice performing "Long Time To Be Alone"

* * Eric Horng is joining WLS-TV as a reporter starting August 9th. Horng is currently a correspondent for ABC's network News, based out of Chicago. He has been with ABC since August 2003. Prior to that, he was a national correspondent for CNN for three years and a CNN southern correspondent for a year before that. Horng is a Chicago-area native, a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a huge Chicago sports fan.

* * The vacancy that allowed WLS-TV to hire Eric Horng happened because of a promotion for Ben Bradley. Bradley, who has been a reporter & fill-in anchor for WLS-TV since October 2002, has been promoted to weekend anchor. He will co-anchor the Sunday morning newscasts with Stacey Baca beginning September 5th. He replaces Kevin Roy, who was relieved of his duties at the station at the end of April. It was Bradley who rushed to ABC7's aid when Roy did not show up for work unannounced on the early morning of Sunday April 25, which also happens to be Ben Bradley's birthday. In addition to his new Sunday morning anchoring duties, he will continue to be a general assignment reporter for WLS-TV during the week and occasional fill-in anchor duties. Bradley previously worked at CLTV for four years, as well as stations in Charleston, SC and Columbia, MO. He is a Chicago native and a two-time Emmy winner for reports he has done for ABC7.

* * A former WLS-TV reporter is returning to Chicago television. Dan Ponce, left ABC7 at the start of 2009 to pursue his musical dreams with his a capella group, Straight No Chaser. Ponce, a baritone singer, co-founded the group in 1996 while he was in college. The group's popularity has recently taken off and he has been touring & performing with them almost non-stop for the last year and a half. However, Dan Ponce is engaged to be married to Amy Levell, a Chicago-based manager for a non-profit organization, and wishes to now have a more stable life. He is coming back to work on Chicago television as a reporter, only this time, it will be with WGN-TV. His first time on the air for WGN will be September 1st. Dan Ponce comes from a well known Chicago family. His father is Phil Ponce, longtime local reporter/anchor and current host of WTTW's "Chicago Tonight." His younger brother is Anthony Ponce, a reporter on WMAQ-TV. His sister is Maria Ponce, a professional photographer in Chicago & New York, who made headlines last November with her gallery display of sexy black & white photographs of Chicago media stars wearing tight white t-shirts.

* * Former WGN-TV sports & news anchor for the WGN Morning News, Bill Weir has been named as a new co-host for ABC's "Nightline" nightly news program. Weir was with WGN from 1995-1998. He most recently had been co-hosting of the weekend edition of ABC's "Good Morning America" and a general reporter for other ABC news programs.

* * CBS has been asking their owned & operated television stations to begin using a new graphics package on the stations' newscasts. Chicago's CBS outlet, WBBM-TV has now started using the new package, which also includes a slight update to their Frank Gari "Enforcer" theme music. You can see the new graphics package in use in the clip below.
