In today's News & Notes, we have news about a new weekend host for WSCR, a reunion and new distributor for Doug Banks, a new show for WIND weekends, a new baby for Rick Hall, an awesome new car for a lucky WLS listener, and live coverage of the new Blackhawks Convention for Comcast SportsNet.
* * As mentioned here last week, WSCR's Mountain Dew Score Search Finale was held on Saturday night at Harry Caray's in Wrigleyville. The final auditions for just who will become the station's next weekend host will took place. It was a two hour show -- the podcasts of which can be heard HERE -- and from the four finalists, a new weekend host was found. The big winner was Maya Gavin. The 38 year old health care worker from Joliet beat out hundreds of other applicants to have a sports talk radio show on The Score. Gavin, who was a Communications major at the University of Iowa, is a self-confessed sports nut and thrilled to get this shot on the air. She doesn't have to quit her day job, though. She will only be doing a once-a-week, two-hour show and her shift will be in the very early hours of Saturday morning, beginning in mid-September. On the Score's website, Gavin claimed: "I am knowledgeable about sports, not afraid to jump right into the tough controversial topics. I am a fan... and my passion for my teams will be apparent." ![]() * * The Doug & De De Show is back! De De McGuire has rejoined Doug Banks on his WVAZ-FM afternoon show. In other good news for Doug Banks, his show is being picked up for syndicated distribution by American Urban Radio Networks. The show's syndication deal had been dropped by Citadel Media in company wide cutbacks seven months ago. ![]() * * A new one-hour weekly show is coming to WIND-AM. "College Bound" is a radio program dedicated to teaching parents how to get their children into the best colleges in the country, without paying the high prices. The show promises to deliver an insider's perspective from the top Admissions and Financial Aid experts. "College Bound" is hosted by Naperville's Ken Schreiber, the President of Premier College Planning Associates and will air at 11:00pm each Sunday. The very first show premieres this Sunday night. ![]() * * Congratulations to former Fresh 105.9 midday host Rick Hall and his wife Sarah. The two welcomed their first child into this world over the weekend: a little girl named June! All are doing well. Since his forced departure from WCFS last month, Rick has been keeping busy as a fill-in host on syndicated Christian hit radio networks, Air1 and Shine.FM. Now with a new baby at home, he will be even busier! ![]() * * For the last couple of weeks, WLS-FM has been teasing listeners about their big summer giveaway. They let everybody know that one lucky WLS fan will end their summer by driving home with a mint condition, red, 1972 Corvette Stingray convertible. Up until this week, fans could only look & drool at the car, but did not know how to win it. The details have been finally unveiled: it will be through a "Song of the Day" promotion. Starting this week and for the next month, Dave Fogel will announce the "Song of the Day" at 7:30am each weekday morning. At some point between 9:00am and 5:00pm, the special song will be played and the 15th caller wins a $100 gas card. At the end of August, one of those $100 gas card winners will be randomly chosen to be the car's new owner. More details can be found at this link HERE. ![]() * * Comcast SportsNet and their website CSNChicago.com will be providing live Opening Ceremonies coverage of the 2010 Blackhawks Convention on this Friday, July 30 at 5:00pm. The Chicago Blackhawks Convention is being held downtown this weekend at the Hilton Chicago and CSN will of course, be there. In addition to the opening ceremony celebration, CSN's Chris Boden will file reports from the convention on SportsNite at 6:30pm, 10:00pm, 10:30pm and Midnight. CSNChicago.com will feature exclusive online coverage, including convention video and numerous interviews all weekend long. ![]()
