Steve Cochran, who has been out of work for the last few weeks since WGN-AM removed him from the airwaves a few days before his contract expired, has a new temporary job. He will be on the air on WMVP-AM/ESPN1000 this Sunday afternoon for a three hour show.
Cochran made the announcement on his Facebook page via a status update. There he said: "Happy Thursday friends...I will be on your radios this Sunday from noon-3 on ESPN 1000. Two promises... 1) it will be big fun, great guests 2) I will not be naming myself the next manager of the CUBS Thx in advance for listening." That status update of his quickly brought on numerous comments below it, including from Cochran's longtime friend and former WGN morning host, Spike O'Dell who said, "Knock 'em dead partner!" Former WGN newsman David Stewart humorously added, "Whatever you do, don't say anything that will get you in trouble with management. Oh, wait. Nevermind." This will not be Steve Cochran's first time on the WMVP-AM airwaves. When he previously worked for WLUP, he was on AM 1000 when it was part of the Loop family, doing a weekday show. Ironically, when he first came to Chicago in 1993, he was hired by WCKG-FM to be their funny morning show host. However, after arriving in town, management surprised him by telling him they had changed their mind about the show and wanted it instead to focus on sports. Not wanting to do a sports-themed morning show, he quit the station after one day. Now he finds himself doing a fill-in show on a sports station where he will more than likely end up doing a sports-themed comedic show. Cochran's show will air from Noon-3:00pm on 1000 AM and can be streamed online at that time at this link HERE. ![]()
